I'm posting this video because it does show that you can clean your rugs on your own but there somethings to be aware of. First, let me say that I'm a professional area rug cleaner in the Tampa FL area. I clean all types of area rugs on a daily basis. It's important to understand that there are some rugs you can clean on your own and some you should have professionally cleaned. In this video the rugs she is cleaning are synthetic fibers, Either nylon, polyester, or Olefin. Synthetic rugs are difficult to damage and clean up easily. Natural woven rugs like wool, silk, and viscose should only be cleaned by a professional rug cleaner.
Natural fiber area rugs run a greater risk of fiber damage and or improper handling, don't put them at risk if you don't have too. A professional area rug cleaner should be able to identify the type of rug you have and know how to clean it with minimal risks. If your not sure if your rug has natural or synthetic fibers check the label. If there is no label call a professional before attempting to clean it on your own.
