This video shows how to make a simple carpet stain remover. As a professional carpet cleaner in Tampa FL I would not recommend this DIY carpet cleaner. The recipe in the video uses far more soap then is necessary for a cleaning solution. If you're making your own carpet stain remover use a few drops of dish soap into 2 cups of carbonated water or soda water, along with 1/2 a tablespoon of vinegar.
The video recipe uses too much soap and will leave a sticky residue that will only attract more dirt and create more spots on your carpet. It also calls for hydrogen peroxide which I replaced with soda water. Hydrogen peroxide is a good cleaner but it can be harsh on carpet and other soft materials it has much better uses elsewhere.
A carpet stain remover should have soap in it but not so much that it creates more problems by staying around after the carpet has been cleaned. So always take the extra step to rinse the carpet after cleaning with warm water or soda water. this will help remove any extra cleaning agent or residues that have been left behind.
Last but not least, remove the moisture by blotting with a clean white towel until the area is dry. I prefer to use a small wet/dry vac to pull any moisture from the carpet after cleaning. This will keep the stain from coming back after some time.
If this DIY cleaner does not remove your carpet stains call a professional carpet cleaner, like me.
