We have used this on several jobs and it works quite well. The trick is making sure the iron is hot enough to melt the wax without melting your carpet fibers. Don’t let the iron sit for even a couple of second on the carpet.  Feel free to use a clean white terry cloth towel instead of paper towels, it will work just fine.  This trick also works for soder and other solids that have made their way into your carpet.
